Award-Winning Business Has Award-Winning Employee

Return

The Miner Corporation and others under the Miner Holding Company umbrella have been recognized for numerous awards, such as being named to the Inc. 5000 and Aggie 100 lists multiple times.

This award-winning facilities maintenance and materials handling business has a strict ethics in business policy and expects exemplary service to its customers, hiring the best and brightest in its industry. They hired Chris Galvan 12 years ago. After serving in various positions with what is now Miner Central Texas; Miner Southwest; and Miner Houston, he is presently The Miner Corporation’s Director of Distributorship Service Operations and a partner in Miner Southwest.

On Dec. 26, 2008, Chris Galvan was named one of the San Antonio Business Journal’s 40 Under 40 Rising Stars honorees. The list recognizes 40 promising young business professionals under the age of 40 who are making a difference in business and the community. Nominees had to be less than 40 years old as of Dec. 19, 2008.

Galvan described being nominated for this annual award by his business partners and peers as humbling. “To have been recognized on the list of the San Antonio Business Journal’s 40 Under 40 Business Leaders, in the 7th largest city in the country, made it even more special,” said Galvan.  “Being selected by a committee that is not from within our industry, makes the years of hard work and charitable donations that much more rewarding,” added Galvan.

“I think it’s great that this award focuses on your business accomplishments as well as your
contribution to society.”

Operations, The Miner Corporation, on the annual Top 40 Under 40 Rising Stars award.

It’s no surprise to Galvan’s bosses that he was selected for this honor. “Chris always puts others needs above his own. It is in his nature to make sure that those around him have what they need before he thinks of himself,” said David Janssen, President and CEO of The Miner Corporation. And, "Chris is one who always gives more to others than he receives,” said Philip T. Miner, Founder and Chairman of Miner Holding Company. “As a leader, he has impacted our organization on so many levels."

Galvan’s can-do attitude was evident early on in his career at Miner, when he enthusiastically embraced new challenges, like moving to Phoenix to help start up Miner Southwest in 1998 when he was only 26 years old, assisting with Miner Florida’s startup in 2006 and leading a team of Miner employees into Houston to help with recovery efforts after Hurricane Ike in Sept., 2008.

As The Miner Corporation’s Director of Distributorship Service Operations, Galvan is responsible for the company’s six service operations covering Arizona, New Mexico, Mexico’s Border States, Florida and Texas. He is also responsible for the development and implementation of Miner’s sales and service operations manuals. “I’m a strong believer that a manager should be able to perform the tasks of each of their employees.  Therefore, I like to say I’m knee deep in all of it,” joked Galvan. Philip Miner describes Galvan as a values-based leader. “With his strong work ethic, experience and knowledge, he teaches others to do things as good as or better than himself,” Miner said.

Galvan is not only a dedicated employee, he’s also dedicated to giving back to his community. He is an active supporter of Texas A&M’s Association of Former Students and 12th Man Foundation. He volunteers for Habitat for Humanity and the San Antonio Food Bank. In October 2008, Galvan registered for the MS-150 bike ride for his 4th consecutive year. And he and his wife Julie volunteer with marriage and parenting programs offered by their church. He also encourages community involvement among his family and friends, often donating to charity drives spearheaded by others.

“I feel strongly that contributing to others is important,” Galvan said in his 40 Under 40 nomination form. “It’s about how your actions better someone else’s life and make your community a better place to live.  Your actions are what inspire others to act.  I hope that by my example, I inspire others to find their passion and act.”
